History
Dahlia was born at the abbey, as many residents were. As a dibbun she liked to get into mischief, and the former Abbot was always chastising her. One time she went fishing with a makeshift hook, which gouged into her ear, and when the other dibbuns tried to help remove it (so that she would not have to venture to the infirmary) they tore a slice in her ear.
But as she grew into a young adult, she matured. She went out and ministered to the surrounding animals, giving food and care to anybeast that needed it. The younger dibbuns always loved Dahlia, and she had great patience with them due to her own transgressions as a child.
When the former abbot became ill, he called her to his deathbed, she had proven herself to be a great boon to the abbey, and able to manage the dibbuns well. The abbey residents as well as those in the surrounding lands loved her. She was kind, but no pushover. A perfect candidate, he said, for his successor. Shocked, and flattered, she reluctantly took the job, after much persuation by the dying abbot.
Description
Dahlia is short, even for an old field mouse, standing more at the height of a shrew than a mouse. She clads herself in humble brown robes, often walking around with her arms folded into the sleeves. Her fur and whiskers have turned a dull grey with age, and her paws are riddled with arthritis, but still she manages to play with the dibbuns.
A small cherry wood cane helps to support her slight frame as she walks, though it is discarded at times when she is feeling fleet enough to dance or play. Small glasses perch upon her nose to help her see. There is a notch in her right ear from a accident in her dibbun days.
Personality
The Abbess is a kind hearted old mouse, with a bit of mischief still in her eyes. She’s gentle, and caring, and soft spoken, but firm when she needs to be. She likes things simple, although as any Redwaller does, she also enjoys the elaborate feasts that Harold in the new season.
She adores the dibbuns, and she often joins in their games, though her energy often wears out before the games are complete. She enjoys sitting by the pond, soaking her old footpaws in the shallows. She also enjoys having lunch out in the orchard.

It was a warm autumn day in the abbey, and Abbess Dahlia was out enjoying the air. Her cherry wood cane made a soft crunching sound as it pressed down against the fallen leaves. Her dark, gentle eyes swept across the orchard, taking in the dibbuns who had taken to climbing the trees, the young squirrels of course leading this game. Ah, how she had enjoyed such games in her youth. The old field mouse laughed to herself, “Now a days, it would be impossible.”
She sighed with soft remorse, grieving for her lost childhood. Her paws folded over the knob of her cane, old bones creaking with the action. She smiled up at the young ones, who waved down at her, calling out their greetings and hanging from the branches of the trees like apples. The dibbuns laughed and carried on in their games, and the abbess laughed along, moving to sit beneath the tree in which the young beasts were playing. She let out a groan as her bones creaked once again.
“Yous otay, H’abbess?” One young squirrel called out, clearly concerned as he scampered easily down the tree. The old mouse simply smiled and nodded, patting the dibbun on the head, “I’m fine, little one. Go enjoy your games.” The squirrel laughed and turned, scurrying back up the tree.
